October to February is the most pleasant time. Days are warm and nights are cool. March to May is hot. The monsoon from June to September brings heavy rain, but the surrounding hills and forts turn green. Check weather forecasts before planning.
Pune Airport is about 10 km north-east of the centre in Lohegaon. You can take a prepaid taxi or a ride app. The journey takes 30 to 45 minutes depending on traffic. The Aqua Line metro from the airport area is under planning; check current transport options.
Sinhagad fort is about 35 km south-west and takes 1 to 1.5 hours to reach. Lohagad and Visapur forts near Lonavala are also day-trip options. Monsoon trails can be slippery. Check local access advisories before you go.
Pune Metro has two lines: the Purple Line from PCMC to Swargate and the Aqua Line from Vanaz to Ramwadi. They connect key areas like Shivajinagar, the railway station and Kalyani Nagar. Check the current network map for extensions and timings.
Ganeshotsav in August or September is the biggest festival. The immersion procession on Anant Chaturdashi draws large crowds. The Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Mahotsav in December features Hindustani classical music. Navratri is celebrated at Chaturshringi temple.
Most foreign visitors need an Indian visa. Many nationalities can apply for an e-Visa online at the official government site. Rules change frequently, so check the latest requirements well before your travel date.
