Staying in Magarpatta & Hadapsar
Magarpatta and Hadapsar form a self-contained business and residential corridor in east Pune, popular with IT professionals and short-stay visitors.
What the area is like
Magarpatta City is a large integrated township with office parks, residential apartments and green open spaces. The layout is planned, with wide internal roads and a central lake. Hadapsar is the older neighbourhood around the Solapur road junction, with dense mixed-use development, local markets and busier streets. Together they form a distinct zone east of the Mula-Mutha river.
The area feels modern in parts and chaotic in others. Magarpatta's gated compounds are quiet and landscaped. Hadapsar's main road is lined with shops, auto-rickshaws and commuters. The contrast is part of the character. You will find a mix of mid-range and budget hotels, mostly near the IT park or along the Solapur road.
- Magarpatta has a 24-hour pharmacy and a supermarket inside the township.
- Hadapsar has a large vegetable market and several ATM kiosks.
- The area is well lit on main roads; internal colony roads vary.
Who it suits
This area is ideal for business travellers working in Magarpatta's IT offices or nearby industrial zones. It also suits transit passengers who need a hotel close to the airport without staying in Viman Nagar. Budget-conscious visitors will find more affordable options here than in Koregaon Park or the central business district.
Leisure travellers may find the area less interesting for sightseeing. There are no major tourist attractions within 4 km. The old city centre, Shaniwar Wada and the riverside promenades are a 20-minute auto ride away. If your trip is mostly work or a short stopover, Magarpatta and Hadapsar are practical choices.
Getting around
Auto-rickshaws are the most common mode of transport. They are available on the main road and at the Magarpatta gate. App-based cabs are also easy to book. The Pune Metro does not yet reach this area; the nearest station is on the Aqua Line at Kalyani Nagar, about 4 km away. Check the current network for updates.
To the airport, allow 20 to 40 minutes depending on traffic. To Pune Junction railway station, expect 20 to 30 minutes. Swargate bus station is about 25 minutes by auto. For long-distance buses, you can also board at the Hadapsar bus stop on Solapur road, which serves routes towards Solapur and the south.
What is nearby
Within the area itself, you will find small parks, a lake in Magarpatta and a few local temples. For daily needs, the township has a convenience store and a few eateries. Hadapsar has a larger selection of shops, including electronics and clothing. The Phoenix Market City mall in Viman Nagar is about 6 km away, with a multiplex and food court.
For a longer excursion, the forts of Sinhagad and Rajgad are about 35 km south-west. The Karla and Bhaja Buddhist caves near Lonavala are roughly 50 km north-west. These are best done as day trips by hired car or cab. The old city centre with Shaniwar Wada, the Pataleshwar caves and Parvati Hill is about 8 km away.
Eating
Magarpatta has a few food courts and cafés inside the IT park that serve lunch and snacks. Hadapsar's main road has a string of small restaurants offering Maharashtrian, South Indian and North Indian food. Misal pav, vada pav and thalis are common. Bakeries sell Shrewsbury biscuits and other local snacks. Several Irani cafés in the area serve bun maska and chai.
For a full meal, look for places that serve Puneri thali or mastani, a thick milkshake with ice cream. Evening snack options include bakarwadi and samosas. Most eateries are casual and budget-friendly. Fine-dining restaurants are rare; for those, head to Koregaon Park or Viman Nagar. Drinking water from sealed bottles is recommended.
- Many restaurants in Hadapsar close by 10.30 pm; check hours in advance.
- Street food is widely available but choose stalls with high turnover.
- Some Magarpatta hotels offer room service from their own kitchens.
Safety and practical tips
The area is generally safe, with a visible police presence on the main road. Magarpatta's gated compounds have security guards and CCTV. In Hadapsar, keep valuables out of sight and avoid walking alone on quiet streets late at night. Auto-rickshaw drivers may quote higher fares to outsiders; agree on the fare before boarding or use an app-based cab.
Carry small denomination cash for auto rides and street purchases. Many hotels and larger shops accept digital payments. The climate is mild from October to February, hot from March to May and wet during the monsoon from June to September. If visiting in the monsoon, carry an umbrella and avoid low-lying areas near the river.
How to choose a hotel here
Hotels in Magarpatta are mostly within the township and cater to business travellers. They offer clean rooms, Wi-Fi and sometimes a gym or pool. Hadapsar has more budget options, often on the main road, which can be noisier. Decide based on your tolerance for traffic sound and your need for a quiet compound.
Check if the hotel provides transport to the IT park or airport. Some have tie-ups with cab services. Read recent reviews about cleanliness and water quality. If you have an early flight, a hotel closer to the airport side of Hadapsar (near the Pune–Solapur road junction) saves time. For longer stays, a hotel inside Magarpatta with a kitchenette or nearby food court is more convenient.
- Ask about parking if you are driving; some Hadapsar hotels have no dedicated parking.
- Confirm check-in and check-out times; some budget hotels operate on 24-hour slots.
- Look for hotels with a generator or inverter; power cuts occur in the monsoon.
