ArrivalAt an airport or seaport designated for e-Visa arrivals

Ni-Vanuatu passport holders are eligible for the Indian e-Visa. This electronic travel authorisation lets you apply online from Vanuatu before your trip. You receive the approved visa by email. Print it and carry it to the airport. On arrival at an Indian airport or seaport, you give biometrics. The e-Visa covers tourism, business and medical visits. Check the official site for the latest rules.

What the e-Visa means for you

The Indian e-Visa simplifies the process for Ni-Vanuatu citizens. You do not need to visit an Indian embassy or consulate. The entire application is online. You fill in a form, upload a photo and a passport page, pay the fee and wait for the approval email. The e-Visa is linked electronically to your passport. It is valid for entry at designated airports and seaports only.

This visa is for short stays. It covers tourism, business trips and medical treatment. You cannot work on this visa or study on a full-time course. If you need to stay longer or have another purpose, you must apply for a different visa at an Indian mission. The e-Visa is not extendable or convertible. Check the official site for the current list of eligible entry points.

Before you travel and on arrival

Apply at least a few days before your departure. The official site is indianvisaonline.gov.in. You need a valid passport with at least two blank pages. Upload a recent photograph and the passport data page. Pay the fee online. Once approved, you receive an Electronic Travel Authorisation by email. Print this document and carry it with your passport.

At the Indian airport, go to the e-Visa counter. The immigration officer checks your passport and the authorisation. You then give your fingerprints and a photograph. This biometric enrolment is quick. After that, you receive the entry stamp. The process is the same at all e-Visa-designated airports and seaports. Keep the stamped arrival card with you during your stay.

Arriving in Indian cities and travelling

Once you clear immigration, you can travel within India. The e-Visa allows multiple entries for the duration of its validity. You can fly between cities, take trains or buses. There are no restrictions on domestic movement. Always carry your passport and a copy of the e-Visa. Some states require you to register at a police station if you stay more than a certain period.

In big cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai or Kolkata, the airport has prepaid taxi counters and app-based ride services. At railway stations, you can buy tickets at the counter or online. Many hotels accept foreign guests without extra paperwork. If you plan to visit restricted or protected areas, you need a separate permit. Check with the local tourism office or the Foreigners Regional Registration Office.

Staying longer, working or studying

The e-Visa is for short visits only. If you want to stay longer than the allowed period, you must leave India and reapply. Overstaying can result in fines or a ban. For work, study or long-term stays, you need a different visa. Apply at the Indian High Commission in Port Vila or the nearest Indian mission. The official site lists all visa categories.

For a work visa, your employer in India must sponsor you. For a student visa, you need admission to a recognised Indian institution. Both require supporting documents and a separate application process. The e-Visa cannot be converted to another visa while in India. Always check the official site for the most current rules and procedures.
