Burmese citizens can obtain an Indian e-Visa for tourism, business, or medical visits. You must apply online at the official e-Visa website before departure. The e-Visa allows entry at designated airports and seaports. Check the official site for current eligibility and requirements.

What the e-Visa means

The Indian e-Visa for Burmese citizens is an electronic travel authorisation linked to your passport. You do not need to visit an embassy or consulate. The e-Visa covers short visits for tourism, business, or medical treatment. It is valid for entry at specific airports and seaports across India.

The e-Visa is not a physical sticker in your passport. When approved, you receive an electronic document by email. Print this and carry it with you. Immigration officers at the port of entry will verify the authorisation and stamp your passport.

Before travel and on arrival

Apply online at indianvisaonline.gov.in at least a few days before your planned travel. You need a valid passport, a digital photo, and a scanned copy of the passport bio page. Complete the application, pay the fee online, and wait for the electronic travel authorisation.

On arrival at an Indian airport or seaport, proceed to the e-Visa counter. Have your passport and printed e-Visa ready. Biometrics (fingerprints and photograph) are taken at immigration. The process is usually straightforward. Ensure your passport has at least six months of validity from your date of arrival.

Arriving in big cities and travelling

Major Indian cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Kochi have e-Visa facilities at their airports. You can also enter through certain seaports. Once inside India, you can travel freely between states and cities by train, bus, or domestic flight.

The e-Visa is for short stays only. You cannot extend it or change it to another visa type while in India. If you plan to stay longer or engage in activities not covered by the e-Visa, you must apply for a different visa category before travel.

Staying longer, working or studying

For longer stays, employment, or study, the e-Visa is not suitable. You must apply for a regular visa at an Indian embassy or consulate in Myanmar. Categories include employment visa, student visa, and entry visa. Each has specific requirements and processing times.

Check the official website of the Indian embassy in Yangon for details. The e-Visa portal does not handle these categories. You will need to submit a paper application, provide supporting documents, and attend an interview if required.
