ArrivalAt an airport or seaport designated for e-Visa arrivals

Lithuanian citizens can obtain an Indian e-Visa for tourism, business or medical visits. You must apply online before departure. The e-Visa is linked electronically to your passport. On arrival, proceed to the e-Visa counter at designated airports or seaports. Check the official site for the latest eligibility and rules.

What the e-Visa means

The Indian e-Visa allows Lithuanian passport holders to enter India for short stays without visiting an embassy. You apply entirely online. The visa is sent as an electronic travel authorisation, which you print and carry. It is valid for entry at specific airports and seaports. You cannot enter by land border with an e-Visa.

The e-Visa covers tourism, business conferences, medical treatment and casual visits. Each purpose has a separate sub-category. You must select the correct one during the application. Overstaying or working on a tourist e-Visa is not permitted. Check the official site for the full list of allowed activities.

Before you travel and on arrival

Apply online at indianvisaonline.gov.in at least a few days before your flight. You will need a digital photo and a scan of your passport data page. Pay the fee online. Once approved, the electronic travel authorisation is emailed to you. Print a copy to carry with your passport.

At the airport, proceed to the e-Visa counter. The immigration officer checks your passport and the authorisation. Biometrics (fingerprints and a photograph) are taken on arrival. The process is straightforward. Make sure your passport has at least two blank pages. Check the official site for the list of designated entry points.

Arriving in big cities and travelling

Major Indian cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Chennai have e-Visa counters at their international airports. From there you can take a prepaid taxi or a metro train into the city. Domestic flights connect to other cities. You can travel freely within India during your stay.

Travelling between states is unrestricted for e-Visa holders. You can use trains, buses or domestic flights. Keep your passport and visa authorisation with you at all times. Some hotels may ask for a copy. The e-Visa is valid for the duration stated on the authorisation. Check the official site for any travel restrictions.

Staying longer, working or studying

The e-Visa is for short stays only. If you plan to work, study or stay longer, you need a different visa. Apply for a work visa, student visa or entry visa at the Indian embassy in Lithuania. These require a paper application and supporting documents.

For long-term stays, contact the Indian embassy in Vilnius or the nearest consulate. The e-Visa cannot be extended or converted to another visa type while in India. You must leave before the e-Visa expires. Overstaying can result in fines or a ban. Check the official site for all visa categories.

  1. Go to the official e-Visa website at indianvisaonline.gov.in.
  2. Fill in the online application form with your passport and personal details.
  3. Upload a recent digital photograph and a scan of your passport data page.
