ArrivalAt an airport or seaport designated for e-Visa arrivals

Kenyan citizens can obtain an Indian e-Visa for tourism, business, or medical visits. The application is submitted entirely online, and the approved authorisation is sent by email. You must arrive at a designated airport or seaport. Check the official e-Visa site for current eligibility and conditions.

What the e-Visa means

The Indian e-Visa allows Kenyan passport holders to enter India for short stays without visiting an embassy. It covers tourism, business trips, and medical visits. The authorisation is linked electronically to your passport, so you do not need a sticker or stamp before travel.

You must apply online before departure. The e-Visa is not issued on arrival. Approval is sent by email as an Electronic Travel Authorisation. Print this document and carry it with your passport. On arrival, immigration officers verify your details and may take biometrics.

Before you travel and at the airport

If you arrive in a major city such as Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, or Bengaluru, the e-Visa counters are clearly marked. Follow signs for 'e-Visa' or 'Electronic Travel Authorisation'. Keep your printed authorisation and passport accessible.

For travel between Indian cities, the e-Visa does not restrict internal movement. You can take domestic flights, trains, or buses. Always carry your passport and a copy of your visa. Some hotels may ask to see your visa on check-in.

Staying longer or for other purposes

If you plan to stay beyond the e-Visa's permitted period, or intend to work, study, or volunteer, you need a different visa category. Apply for a regular visa at the Indian embassy or consulate in Kenya before travel. The e-Visa cannot be extended or converted to another type inside India.

For employment, a work visa is required. For study, a student visa. For medical treatment, the e-Visa for medical purposes covers most needs, but check the official site for conditions. Always confirm the correct category on indianvisaonline.gov.in before applying.

How to apply for the e-Visa

  1. Visit the official e-Visa website at indianvisaonline.gov.in.
  2. Fill in the online application form with your personal and passport details.
  3. Upload a recent passport-size photograph and a scan of your passport data page.
  4. Pay the visa fee online using a credit or debit card.
  5. Wait for the Electronic Travel Authorisation to be sent by email.
  6. Print the approval and carry it with your passport when you travel.
  7. On arrival at an e-Visa-designated airport or seaport, proceed to the e-Visa immigration counter and give biometrics.
